If you’ve tried snowboarding once, chances are, you’re already more into the sport than you think. I don’t blame you. Anyone who has tried snowboarding, especially on Arbor snowboards, is not likely to forget the experience anytime soon. It’s not just another extreme sport. It may well be a lifestyle choice. Being a snowboarder makes you more aware of the beauty of nature. It also keeps you careful and reverent about the things that nature could do.

There are people like you that take snowboarding seriously, and some of these people make up the company Arbor. Arbor, as the name implies, is a company that insists on the best quality materials for their boards, which in this case is bamboo. Arbor snowboards are said to be the best. Here are the reasons why:

Top Quality Materials

When a product is said to be made of top quality materials, it speaks volumes about the manufacturing process as well as the sourcing strategies of the manufacturers. Arbor has made the career of some top boarders soar into new heights. The snowboard used by these riders is a big part of their success. A snowboarder can perform really well out on the slopes if he can trust the brand of snowboard that he uses. The last thing you want to think about is the board failing you just when you’re about to jump really high or make a complicated turn.

One of the best features of Arbor is that it uses bamboo as a major element in the snowboards. Bamboo is a tough, resilient material that can sustain pressure well. Ever wondered why trees are being uprooted left and right during a storm, yet the sturdy bamboo stays put? It’s because bamboo, by nature, can sustain so much pressure even in extreme conditions. Having bamboo as an Arbor snowboard material is great because you know you’re also helping the environment.

Many Categories to Choose From

The Arbor snowboards categories include all mountain, free ride and freestyle. Many people prefer the free ride, which is characterized by its length. The free ride board can let you navigate those turns for competition-worthy performances. If you’re not into turning and twisting on your board, you’re better off with the freestyle, which can be used mainly for showing off on consistent terrain like snow parks. The all mountain variety is a good one to get if you want to do your snowboarding solely on mountain slopes. Snowboards made for mountain use are able to handle faster speeds.

If you’re a beginner, you may find it impossible to get the best snowboard at a glance. Take it from the experts, who have a snowboard type for every possible use. Feel free to collect Arbor snowboards and find out what’s great about each one.

When learning about snowboards, you will get to see several charts that you can use to find out which snowboard is best fitted for you. My advice? Use these charts well and figure out what the items listed mean. Don’t just buy the most expensive board and consider the job done. Take your time selecting the snowboard that is really worth your money. Get one that will last for a long time, and not something that simply looks good.

The first step is to familiarize yourself with whatever is on the chart. The ideal snowboard has several elements that need to be scrutinized before you make the purchase. Here are a few of them.

The base of the snowboard refers to the expanse of material that comes in contact with the snow. This is where you should apply wax so that the friction won’t tear your board apart at first use. Many bases for snowboards are created out of polyethylene. A base may either be sintered or extruded. Extruded types are the ones that are cut into shape using the melting process. Sintered bases, on the other hand, are made out of powdered material, which is then heated and pressed to form the base. Some say that sintered bases are more sturdy and receptive to waxing compared to extruded bases.

Deck

The deck part is where you mount the bindings and yourself. Many of the best snowboards out there are installed with mounting holes where you can screw in the bindings. Learn where the holes are so that you can connect your bindings properly to the deck of your snowboard. You can mount the bindings according to the angle or stance you want to try.

Camber

Camber is the part of the board where the shape takes on the form of an arc. This small amount of space is crucial to your balance on the board. A springy camber can help with equilibrium when you prefer high speed snowboarding. The camber is the one that determines how fast you can ride on hard snow. Turning this way and that on a snowboard is also easier if the snowboard you choose has a camber that is ideal for your style of riding.

Contact Points and Edges

Contact points can be determined by the manufacturer and placed in the form of a diagram on a snowboard size chart. Contact points are the places where the board comes in contact with the snow even without your weight as a factor. The edge of the board is usually sharpened according to the snowboarder’s taste. Some snowboarders want a dull edge so that they can perform more tricks when they use rails as a supporting factor in their routines. Contact points and edges are aspects of the snowboard size chart that you should take into consideration.

Learning how to snowboard exposes you to odd contraptions like snowboard stomp pads. Many of the gear you will be handling are necessary to help you manage the terrain safely, and one of these is the stomp pad. What is this tool and how can it be used?

A stomp pad helps you balance on a snowboard. Getting off a chairlift, one foot is in the binding, while the other one is free. This may be an awkward situation if you’re not used to it yet. Many snowboarders, especially the beginners, have to wait awhile to adjust themselves to this process. Letting the other foot rest on the stomp pad can help you move around while you’re strapping your other foot into the binding. The stomp pad can prevent you from losing your balance and slipping on the snow while your other foot is still free.

The main purpose of a stomp pad is to help you get traction on your board. The stomp pad is not a part of the board per se, but a separate entity held on the surface by an adhesive. The whole pad is covering the surface so that you wouldn’t find it awkward to balance your foot on the surface.

An ideal stomp pad is sticky both on the surface and on the backside. The topside should only be somewhat sticky so that your foot can stay in place but not too sticky that you can’t take it off whenever you want. The important thing is that your foot does not slip around. The ideal position for the snowboard stomp pads is towards the rear of the board. This is the perfect position because you can easily step on the pad and then position your foot for the binding later on. The stomp pad in this position can make it easier for you to bind it onto the board.

Grace and ease of dismounting from the chairlift would involve using the stomp pad. By wiping your feet on the pads, you can get rid of all the snow that may have accumulated under your boots. Scrape the surface of your boot’s sole on the snowboard pad to get rid of ice. This is also for your safety because you want to be able to control the direction of the board with no ice fragments stuck between your boots and the snowboard.

You can usually buy snowboards with extra stomp pads provided by the store. However, some discount stores sell these items separately. After all, snowboard stomp pads are a necessity and you will end up buying a few if your snowboard does not have one. The rule of thumb is that you need to be the one to stick the stomp pads on your board. Don’t worry if these get worn out, as they’re inexpensive and can be replaced anytime.

You thought you knew how wonderful skiing and snowboarding could be. It is a thousand times more exciting and more fun than you thought! You only need to know some tips that no instructor or anyone else would tell you. Yes, you sure have had sunny days on the snow, smelled the fresh scent of pine trees and have experienced snowy, foggy days and skied despite the wind… But, have you tasted the real pleasure of the powder sparkly snow beyond the regular paths and marked terrain? If you have done that, have you gone skiing through the glaciers and dangerous terrains like cracks in the mountain without a bit of fear? Do you really know what type of equipment to rent or buy before you go riding the slopes? Do you know how to act if you or someone else gets hurt?

For example, if we take ten thousand average skiers and snowboarders who spend about twenty days skiing, according to statistics 348 skiers and 710 snowboarders will be injured so badly that they will seek medical help. This is more than a thousand people! So, do not go skiing or snowboarding until you read this!

All these answers will be given to you in the new book (actually it is more system than a usual book) by Danko Puskaric, “The Truth about Skiing and Snowboarding”. This professional instructor will teach you everything you didn’t know about skiing and snowboarding.

If you are a beginner in skiing, this book is the best choice for you! When you become an advanced or even a professional skier, you are also going to need this book!

This book offers fabulous facts on skiing and snowboarding. The first and the second chapters describe the diet of a skier and preparing for skiing and snowboarding physically! Did you know that you are going to eat more and lose weight at the same time? Yes, you will, and you will definitely improve your health and fitness just by following the rules from this book. After these detailed and illustrated exercises you are going to be able to ski anywhere as long as you wish! You can be a magician on the snow!

The next chapter talks about how to act in case of the most frequent skiing and snowboarding injuries and how to avoid them.

Besides the parts on skiing equipment, there are parts that can also help you to choose your skiing style and help you to stay dry and warm. My favorite part is the Freeriding chapter. This is the chapter for passionate skiers and boarders who have gone much more beyond beaten paths and regularly marked slopes, and for the ones who know to appreciate the fascinating feeling of adrenaline running through the veins with the same speed as they are running down the powdered slopes in the untouched wilderness.

The book will give you all the necessary information about danger that runs parallel with your skis all the time, how to recognize it, escape it, and survive it. You cannot learn this from anyone! This book contains experiences from a large number of people that are unique and priceless but can save lives!

This fascinating book won’t do these things without you, as the author said! You just have to read it and to implement this rare and priceless knowledge that is being given to you! It will give you directions on how to use all the magic of the snow in the right way.

When snowboarding, you will find that every single accessory has a purpose. Some sports have accessories that serve no purpose except to make the wearer look good. But not snowboarding. With the temperature being so low, every item you have on should be up to standard so that you can be safe from injury and you can enjoy yourself more.

Snowboarding gloves may seem inconsequential to your actual function as a snowboarder because you’ll be using your feet to navigate. But snowboarding gloves are important. They contribute to your dexterity as well as your safety. Here are some of the basics of purchasing the best snowboarding gloves.

Fit

Choosing the right fit is one of the hardest things to do. You have to literally try on every size to find out if your hand will feel comfortable in the gloves. Even if you know your hand size, you still need to fit the gloves you’re going to fit. Even if you think your size is accurate, your hand may have changed in size and shape since the last time you checked.

Your dexterity matters especially if you’re balancing your way up from the bottom of the slope after a tumble. You also need to use your hands to grip your snowboard and other accessories while making your way up the mountain. Your gloves need to be the perfect size. If the gloves are rather small, even for just a fraction, your palm will be squeezed too much so that you feel pain more. You can’t afford to let your hands go numb with pain. If the snowboarding gloves are too large, you will lose your dexterity because things will keep slipping from your grasp.

Warmth Rating

Gloves that warm your hands in freezing temperature is a good purchase. To ensure that the glove is great for making your hands warm, get something that is lined. Sometimes called a glove shell, a liner helps maintain the warm temperature inside the glove and keep the cold out. Warmth rating may vary, as many people have different body temperature ratings. The best snowboarding gloves are made of synthetic materials or fleece wrapped in water resistant material. You need to look at the manufacturer temperature rating for the gloves. The rating will give you an idea on the range of temperature that the gloves can handle.

Length and Coverage

The longer the gloves, the more your wrists and lower arms are protected. Snowboarding gloves that extend up to the point above your wrist are ideal. If the gloves simply cover your hands, you risk being exposed to cold. More coverage is needed. You can also be protected from injury if your wrists are protected by firm fabric.

Ask any snowboarding instructor and he will tell you that your snowboarding boots are the most important investment you could make if you want to be good at this sport. Even if you’re just trying it out for the weekend, you need to make sure that your boots are up to par when you hit the slopes. The right pair of boots is not easy to find, with all the choices you have.

Here are some of the main considerations for choosing snowboarding boots.

Comfort

The more uncomfortable you are, the less you will enjoy your hours of snowboarding. The comfort of the footgear you choose depends on several factors. The texture of the boots is one of these factors. You can generally tell how supple the pair is when you hold it in your hands. But you still need to fit the boots so that you know it’s ‘the one’. You may have to try out the ones with your size so that you won’t have to feel disappointed if you ask to fit a pair and they don’t have it in your size.

The warmth that the pair of snowboarding boots can afford is also a main comfort factor. If your pair of boots can keep you warmer, you can survive the trek back and forth to your slope. You will also avoid the pain of having to endure freezing snow under your feet. Freezing can lead to accidents because you can hardly navigate when your feet are cold.

Mode of Wear

Snowboarding boots can be worn several ways. The step in version has bindings that are easier to use because you’re accustomed to this kind of footgear. Step in bindings can be worn with special outer boots. The more usual version is the strap in type, in which the wearer straps his or her feet directly on the board. The price as well as the level of experience required to wear the boots may vary.

Texture

Snowboarding boots can be comfortable whether they’re the hard type or the soft type. If you like to speed across the slopes, get the hard type. You can navigate the slope on your snowboard easier, because it’s like you’re stepping on a harder pedal if you wear this kind of boots.

Softer types of snowboarding boots may be more useful if you’re just trying out this sport. You can experiment more with motion and movement on the board if you can easily move your feet. When you’re just learning how to snowboard, you need flexible shoes so that you can tell which actions lead to which types of speed and movements. The softer types are also warmer so you can take as many spills as you want and your feet won’t feel cold.

If you want to get confident riding a snow capped mountain at any hour of the day, you should get the best snowboarding goggles you can afford. Most expert skiers understand the need for the best snowboarding goggles. They can save your life, make snowboarding more fun, and keep you from lagging behind when you’re with more experienced skiers. You sometimes need to adjust when ideal conditions are not available. With a good pair of snowboarding goggles, you can see clearly even when the conditions are not ideal. If you only have a few days of vacation, you can make each hour count by being able to snowboard even when the sun is setting.

Here are some of the things to look for in a pair of snowboarding goggles:

Wide terrain vision

Using goggles that only lets you see what’s in front of you is like using blinders. This is very dangerous. You should be able to see the terrain as if you have perfect eyesight and you’re not wearing any goggles.

Eye protection

Your eyes should be shielded from the glare of the snow. If you’ve heard the term ‘snow blindness’ in the past, this is exactly what it means. The snow’s way of reflecting light can be quite extreme. On broad daylight, someone who isn’t wearing eye protection could fall down quite heavily.

Price

Snowboarding goggles are quite pricey when you buy them. Although there are more features offered if the pair came from a good brand, you should still consider which features are really helpful to you before you purchase the most expensive pair in the store. If you purchase an expensive one and you find yourself unable to use the features to their maximum potential, then you made a bad purchase.

Brands of Snowboarding Goggles

Smith Prodigy – The turbo fan goggles from Smith Prodigy are extremely useful when the conditions are foggy. The vaporator lens technology is available with a Porex filter and this can ease the pain of having to wipe your goggles every few minutes. This pair is helmet-friendly, which simply means it will look good with any helmet type.

Spy – Trevor and Apollo Black Stallion are some of the good models that this brand has to offer. First of all, they all look cool and you won’t feel bogged down by the contraption on your face. You can say that these are functional goggles for the fashionable snowboarder.

Burton – Helix model is by far one of the less expensive brands out there. The amber lens makes it an ideal pair to have around no matter what time of the year you want to go snowboarding. The visibility is good. Hawkeye Goggles from the same manufacturer offers more fogging up protection and scratch resistance.

Today let’s look at snowboarding jackets. As you already know, snowboarding is an awesome sport that many people love. The people who have not tried this sport yet are truly missing out! See how the people wearing snowboarding jackets are having fun on the hills? You can do that too! For snowboarding, you need a special type of jacket that you can use. Here are some of the things to look for when you are planning to buy a snowboarding jacket.

Insulation in snowboard jackets

A snowboarding jacket that keeps you warm is a valuable tool for your enjoyment. You can’t manage those slopes if you’re shivering from the cold. The weather is a huge part of the snowboarding sport. Most snowboarding resorts are located high up the mountain, or in extremely cold places. After all, snow won’t form and keep firm if the temperature is below freezing. In fact, the best time to snowboard is on a clear day, with snow packed on frozen soil. Therefore, your protection should be a jacket that keeps you insulated from extreme cold.

Lightweight

One mistake that people make when choosing snowboarding jackets is getting the heavy ones. A heavy jacket will help keep you warm, but it will also restrict your movements. A lightweight jacket will not limit the things you can do with your body. If you are able to move freely, you’ll enjoy yourself on the snowboard. Performance-level snowboarders show moves that are far advanced, but even beginners need to be less restricted in movement to be able to navigate the slopes.

When you enter a store to look for a jacket, make sure you try a few on before making your decision. Move your arms around and try walking or jumping so that you can get a feel of how the jacket moves with you while you’re on the snowboard. The weight of your jacket is relative. Some people can handle more weight than others. Therefore, a snowboarding jackets that feels light on you may feel heavy on a younger brother or your son.

Watertight

The thing about doing an outdoor sport like snowboarding is that you don’t know when it’s going to rain or snow hard on you. Looking at the weather advisory for the day will not tell you whether a drizzle is coming. The threat of being soaked by rain or falling snow is even greater when you’re in an area with unpredictable weather.

A water resistant snowboarding jacket will protect you from melting snow. Because you’re playing on snow, it will melt when it comes in contact with your warm body. The last thing you want while you’re having your snowboarding fun is hypothermia. This could happen if your clothes get soaked because of melting snow. So many people have suffered from frost bite because they did not wear enough protective gear.

I hope you benefit from this post. Whichever you are choosing, do make sure that your snowboarding jackets is comfortable for you.

Are you interested to find out how to buy a snowboard? Well, you have come to the right place. First, it is important to know about snowboarding safety tips. For those who have tried skiing, it may seem like snowboarding is a similar sport. There are similarities between skiing and snowboarding, but the latter is truly on a different league when it comes to the equipment and the skills you will need to play it.

For beginners, it is best to learn how to buy a snowboard before you think about your style, training and possible career on the slopes. The type of board you first trained with is likely to dictate the style you will use when you’re going for your first rides. You may get used to this type of board, which is most likely something that is fitted for the riding style of some other individual, like your instructor. It’s best to get your own board as soon as possible so that you can train with it, dream with it and ride those beautiful slopes with it. The excitement of snowboarding starts with buying a brand new snowboard, and here are some tips.

How to Buy a Snowboard

Size matters when you’re choosing a snowboard for your first ride. The right size snowboard can be your best tool. This is the fact that you should always remember if you want to learn how to buy a snowboard. Even without looking at a chart, you can tell if the board is by general standards considered short or long.

Short boards are those that can fit in the space between your collar bone and chin. These short boards are a lot easier to deal with when you’re turning. Short boards are typically for advanced riders who want more than the normal bunny slope to play with. Those riders that do tricks on snow parks are usually the ones that use short snowboards. A beginner can also use a short board if he is lightweight and the longer type is too heavy for him. This is the case with kids that want to learn how to snowboard quite early.

Medium size boards are those that are a bit wider. This is the most common type, and more snowboarders use this size. This can be considered a power board, or your default board for riding a new trail or slope. The benefit of using this kind of board is that you can enjoy the cruise on the snow surface better. A heavier person can maximize the potential of this kind of board. If you hear someone say that he uses an all-terrain board, this may be what he is using.

You can also choose your snowboard using price as the main criterion. A low priced snow board will cost around $150-$250. There are more boards that cost $250-$450, which is the average price. High end snowboards would probably cost you $450 or more. Don’t focus too much on the price because marketing and not quality or features may have been the dominant factor in the price of the board.

With that said, let me show you some snowboards that you may be interested:

In my last post we have talked about waxing your snowboard, right now let’s look at Snowboarding pants. You see, snowboarding pants are essentials you should always remember to bring when you plan to go snowboarding during your vacation. Some people order pants that are suitable for this kind of rough sport. Others use what they already have because they don’t want to expend more money on new ones. When do you know that you already have a good pair of snowboarding pants in your closet? Here are some of the things to look for.

Things To Look For In A Snowboarding Pants

Sturdy Materials

Regular denim is strong enough to withstand all the stress that comes when you use your legs to navigate on a snowboard. But there are other materials that can do the same. Denim has a disadvantage; it can be soaked with water.

Water Resistant Materials

When you’re exposed to snow, your body can get wet faster than you can sail through the next slope. Wearing wet clothes in freezing temperature is never a good idea. So, you have to protect yourself when the snow is melting on your skin. Being too cold to perform could lead to accidents. At the very least, you will miss out on all the fun if you have to go back to your cabin to change clothes. Beware that water resistant items may still get wet and become heavy when exposed to moisture and water after some time.

The Right Size

A good pair of snowboarding pants should fit you like a glove. Even if the pair of pants contains a lot of pockets, you should be able to move around without any restriction. Your feet and their mobility can help you move around on the snowboard. Some people choose a size smaller so that they still look sexy and fit even under all the clothes. However, you should never choose a size that may be too tight because tumbles will be frequent when you’re snowboarding.

Always check the fit of your snowboarding pants. Never compromise, especially when you’re ordering online. An ill-fitting pair of pants is not only unsightly, it can also lead to accidents. If a pair does not fit you well, you’re less likely to feel comfortable.

Pockets

While some of your gear will be in your jacket pockets, it doesn’t hurt to have extra spaces in your pants for emergency items like a signalling device or a very small canteen of water. It’s all right to bring a snack or two, just to keep you energized while you’re taking your time on the snow. Wrap everything in watertight bags before storing in your pockets. Make sure these things are not in your back pocket because you’re likely to land on your bottom when you fall.

Lastly, there are many snowboarding pants available in the market. Always ensure that you have enough budget to get a good pair. Safety always comes first and you should spend good money on snowboarding pants.
